What the current app actually does
The app checks your location about every 15 seconds while you are signed in, so operational screens stay safe and current. While an operational screen is open it sends a location update about every 60 seconds and when you return to the app. That update stores your latest exact availability point even if you are off shift. Being off shift stops new job offers; it does not currently hide a signed-in mechanic from dispatch.
Starting an on-the-way journey turns on location updates while the app is open (about every 30 seconds or 100 metres) and background updates from your device (about every 60 seconds or 200 metres). To save data and battery, updates are normally sent after 90 seconds or 400 metres. Your device's delivery, accuracy and battery settings mean the actual frequency varies.
Journey tracking is stopped on arrival, completion, cancellation and logout, or when WeFix reports that tracking has stopped. Force-closing the app or device restrictions may stop updates. The app does not intentionally run customer journey tracking before you are on the way or after these stop points, but signed-in location updates may still refresh the availability information seen by authorised staff.
Visibility and history
Authorised dispatch/admin users can view the latest exact availability point and exact job breadcrumb history needed for dispatch, safety and evidence. Customers receive only the latest coarsened approximate point while the job is on the way, never exact coordinates or a route history.
Job-linked locations, status times and evidence can form an operational history. The latest availability table is overwritten rather than keeping a breadcrumb trail, while job journey locations are retained under the approved retention schedule.
Purposes, decisions and lawful basis
Location supports dispatch, eligibility, customer journey updates, arrival and pre-start checks, safety, completion evidence and investigation of disputes. WeFix must document an appropriate lawful basis and use the least intrusive means.
Location may inform a human review of job performance, safety or misconduct, but must not be treated as automatically conclusive or used for a solely automated disciplinary decision in this release. Mechanics must have an opportunity to explain inaccuracies, outages and exceptional circumstances.
Access, retention and rights
Access is role-restricted and coordinates must not enter general logs. Retention follows the internal schedule and must be reviewed against necessity. Ask for access, correction, restriction, objection or raise a privacy complaint on 07508 200 425. Employment status may affect particular rights and lawful bases, but this notice applies to anyone performing work through the app.
Notifications and your device
With your permission, the app sends you notifications about new job offers so you do not miss urgent work. When you allow notifications, your device is issued a notification identifier that the app links to your mechanic account and signed-in device, together with your device platform, app version, the app environment, the time you were last seen and your notification permission. This lets a job offer reach your own devices and lets authorised staff see whether alerts can currently reach you.
A job-offer notification contains only a short, non-sensitive summary: the service, the vehicle make, model and registration, an approximate area, the appointment window, your own earnings and how long you have to respond. It never contains the customer's name, contact details or exact address, which are shown to you only after you accept the job. You can turn notifications on or off at any time in your device settings; turning them off does not stop you using the app, but you may miss offers while on shift.
Notification identifiers are treated as operational credentials: they are never shown in plain form to staff or in ordinary records, are removed or disabled when they stop working or when you sign out, and cannot be used to reach another mechanic. Delivery is handled through your device platform's standard notification service, which processes the identifier and the short message in order to deliver it.
